WASHINGTON —Petroleum industry groups are applauding the Dec. 18, 2015 passage by both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate of legislation that set federal spending levels for Fiscal Year 2016, which included provisions lifting a decades long ban on crude oil exports. The House of Representatives approved legislation including language to lift the export ban with a bipartisan vote of 316-113 and the Senate also had bipartisan support in passing its legislation by a vote of 65-33. The Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) said lifting the restrictions on U.S. crude oil exports had been its number one priority in 2015.
