PLEASANT, Mich.—Michigan oil and gas drilling activity dipped to a modern low during the first quarter of 2014, with a total of 20 holes reaching total depth between Jan. 1 and March 31, according to a tally of activity conducted this month by Michigan Oil & Gas News. The first quarter is historically the least active of the year in Michigan, with seasonal load restrictions hampering rig and equipment movement for much of the period.
