摘要

The reduction of man-made greenhouse GAS EMISSIONS AND THE INTENSIVE USE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY IN STEELMAKING ARE SUBJECTS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE IN WORLD-WIDE TERMS. THE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE OF THE IV PANEL ON THE PlG IRON INDUSTRY (Independent Producers) considers that BRAZILIAN STEEL INDUSTRY HAS AN IMPORTANT ROLE TO PLAY IN THIS PROCESS VERY MUCH EXPECTED BY SOCIETY as a whole. Therefore, based on the technical CONTRIBUTIONS PRESENTED DURING THE LAST IV Panel (ABM 2010), actions are proposed for the BRAZILIAN INTEGRATED STEEL INDUSTRY THAT TODAY IS PRACTICALLY AND ENTIRELY BASED ON IMPORTED FOSSIL FUELS (COKE AND MINERAL COAL). THESE ACTIONS TARGET AN OPERATING MODEL THAT USES 66% OF IMPORTED ENERGY (FOSSIL FUELS) AND 34% OF NATIONAL AND RENEWABLE ENERGY (BIOMASS). It SHOULD BE HIGHLIGHTED THAT THE BRAZILIAN CONDITIONS FAVORABLY LEAD TO SUCH MODEL, SINCE BRASIL HOLDS KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TO DEVELOP IT, THEREFORE ABLE TO BECOME A NEW PARADIGM FOR THE STEEL INDUSTRY WORLDWIDE.
