MANTYS was launched at EMO 2001 in Hanover. The project, supported by the European Commission Growth Programme to promote innovation in the field of manufacturing technologies, focuses on machinery and machine tools in particular. Ahead of the next public event at EMO Milan, we review progress of the project. MANTYS (an acronym for manufacturing technologies) brings together over twenty European RTD laboratories and research institutes in manufacturing technologies a socio-economic task force composed of experts from universities, private companies and machine tool builders' associations; and an Industrial Advisory Committee representing the automotive, aerospace, mechanical and machine building sectors.
