Krupp-Thyssen Nirosta GmbH has placed an order with Steuler Industrie werke for the supply of a mixed acid regeneration plant for two existing pickling lines for stainless steel at the Dillenburg plant. Commissioning of the plant is scheduled to be in the first quarter of 1997. Steuler's regeneration method separates the solute and nonsolute metals from the pickling liquor, at the same time recovering the free acids HNO3 and HF and recirculating them back into the pickling process. Thus the pickling conditions, and consequently the surface quality, are maintained stable. Operating costs are reduced due to the recovery of the pickling acids. Moreover, it has a positive environmental effect because the amount of spent acid which has to be disposed of and the amount of contained nitrate are considerably reduced.
