Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau (VAI) and Wuhan Iron & Steel signed a contract for the supply of a 2-strand wide slab casting plant for steelmaking plant No. 3 in Wuhan, Hubei province.The order value amounts to approx. Euro 20 million.The slab casting plant will produce slabs with thicknesses from 210 to 250 mm and widths ranging from 1350 to 2150 mm at an annual capacity of up to 2500000 t. The product mix ranges from strip to plate grades and low carbon to high carbon steels.For the production of highest quality special grades a solution with a maximized vertical length along with the maximum possible casting bow radius was selected. This design achieves best flotation of nonmetallic inclusions and low strain rates.
