New thyristor control equipment, installed with advice from Midlands Electricity, has resulted in significant productivity gains and an annual energy saving of 77 000 pounds for aluminium processor, Lawson Mardon Star of Bridgnorth, in the UK. The strip process line at Lawson Markon Star transforms pre-heated aluminium ingots from a thickness of up to 420mm to a final thickness of between 1.8 and 2.6mm for use in a wide range of packaging and printing applications. The line comprises two rolling mills, a hot rolling mill and mill stands are each driven by a DC motor.
