Speciality US steelmaker A Finkl & Sons Co has completed a multi-year, multi -million dollar reconstruction of its entire heat-treating department with the installation of the two largest heat-treating" furnaces in the company's history. This final installation caps a re-engineering effort that has seen the replacement of nearly 40 furnaces throughout the company's plant. The two new furnaces, each with inside dimensions of 12ft wide x 10ft tall x 40ft long and capable of heating 250 0001b of steel in a cycle, include a number of advanced features that are said to have typified the design of Finkl's new thermal process equipment: Advanced design allows the furnaces to hold temperatures within + -3 deg C at operating temperatures of up to 1010 deg C.
