For an added architectural element above the entrance of the Annenberg School For Communications on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, 689 sq. ft. of curved insulated panels from Alply Inc. were used. The insulated aluminum panels had a 20-gauge stainless steel exterior skin with a #4 finish and a .040" aluminum interior skin with a mill finish. While the core material for this panel is normally 2"- thick polyisocyanurate, it was sanded to .001" of flatness for this application. Then it was curved to the dimension of the radiused stainless steel. The core material was adhered to the stainless steel with an elastomeric adhesive.
