摘要

To the extent that experimental science is "the art of the soluble" [1], progress is tied to methodological advances. The field of RNA studies has been from its origins interdisciplinary, and many compilations of diverse aspects of relevant methodology have appeared over the years. This issue of Methods brings together reviews on nine approaches to understanding the molecular basis of RNA function at different levels of organization. The subject matter was chosen to encompass diverse techniques and methods of RNA science that represent the state-of-the-art, but have not been recently reviewed elsewhere. Thus, this issue is selective rather than comprehensive.
