While it is physically connected to the existing convention center, the new 18,600-seat Xcel Energy Center has a personality all its own. By design, it sports a look befitting its name, using metal and glass to convey the action and excitement of professional hockey. Constructed on the site of the old St. Paul Civic Center in St. Paul, MN, the new Xcel Energy Center is the home of the National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild. Its proximity to the Interstate makes a landmark structure. The ability to look in one the action was what HOK Sport of Kansas City, MO, had in mind when it wrapped the building in glass. Used in conjunction with the glazing - as Curtainwall infill panels and spandrel panels - were 4 mm-thick Reynobond aluminum composite panels. The material was manufactured by Alcoa Cladding Systems, Norcross, GA. The panels were fabricated by MG McGrath, Maplewood, MN.
