Maurel Prom Moves to Resume Venezuela Activity

French oil firm Maurel Prom has hashed out a deal with Venezuelan state oil firm PDVSA to resume operations at its Petroregional del Lago joint venture (JV) in Lake Maracaibo following last month's temporary lifting of US sanctions. Maurel Prom, which is backed by Indonesian state oil firm Pertamina, is one of the few international operators that has stuck it out in Venezuela through years of economic and political turmoil. It is also the first company to make a major announcement regarding an increase in upstream activity since the US suspended its sanctions on the country's oil sector in October.
