A method has been proposed for cooling the work rolls of hot-strip mills. The method can be used in the rolling of sheet and strip. It entails delivering a water-air mixture to a section of the surface of the roll body in the region where the metal leaves the deformation zone. The water-aix mixture is created by atomizing a stream of water with compressed air at a pressure of 1-4 MPa. Water discharge is set equal to 10-90 m~3/(m~2 centre dot h). The invention ensures the formation of a homogeneous aerosol with a fine, dense spray and improves the thermal operating conditions for the rolls.
