During the period 1993-1995, the tinning shop at the factory of the company Ispat-Karmet replaced its phenol-sulfonol tinning electrolyte with a sulfamine electrolyte developed and patented by TsNIIchermet (Central Scientific Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy) [1]. This change reduced the amount of tin plate rejected for poor quality, expanded the range of stable operation of the electrolyte with respect to temperature, current density, and tin concentration, and reduced the amount of pollution created by the tinning facilities. However, use of the new electrolyte showed that it has a tendency to form slime. In addition to resulting in irrecoverable losses of tin, formation of the slime has led to contamination of the equipment, impeded the circulation of the electrolyte, and adversely affected heat transfer.
