摘要

Manganese is an element that is part of most steels. It is usually introduced during the steelmaking operation in the form of a ferroalloy - metallic manganese, ferromanganese, or silicomanganese. However, these materials are becoming more expensive, and there is a shortage of them within Russia. Another factor to consider is that a substantial percentage (up to 20-25 percent) of the manganese is lost in the steelmaking operation. Processes involving the direct alloying of steel have come into wide use recently. In these cases, the manganese is reduced the moment it is introduced into the melt. The alloying element enters the steel in liquid form, which speeds up its dissolution and reduces losses.
