Veterinary section in congresses of Polish physicians and naturalists at the turn of the nineteenth century.

The article begins by presenting the historical background of various congresses of Polish physicians and naturalists in the second part of the XIX and the first part of XX century. It also presents the profile of Adrian Baraniecki (1828-1819), the initiator of these congresses. Reports from the first congress in 1869 in Cracow and the fifth congress in 1888 in Lvov are included and the establishment of the first Veterinary Section in 1888 is pointed out. The report from Veterinary Section of the ninth congress in 1900 in Cracow is described in full detail and the contributions of such veterinary surgeons as Piotr Seifmann, Jozef Szpilman, Stanisaw Krolikowski-Poraj are summarized. The proceedings of this Veterinary Section were dominated by issues concerning the diagnostic, prophylactic and therapeutic problems of tuberculosis. One of the outcomes of the congress was the creation of "The ongoing tuberculosis committee". Medical congresses at that time were a platform in which Polish physicians and veterinary surgeons could present their achievements.
