Isoenzymatic activity cases of diarrhoea in kids.

The aim of this study was to determine the level of homeostatic disturbances during the course of diarrhoea in kids. The study examined 20 kids divided into 2 groups: 10 clinically healthy and 10 with symptoms of diarrhoea. Acid-base balance parameters, electrolyte concentration and the level of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activities were measured in the blood of all kids. LDH was also separated into its isoenzymatic fractions. Decompensated metabolic acidosis, decreased level of Na+ and Cl- and an increased concentration of K+ were found in kids with diarrhoea. There was also an increase in the activity of AST, ALP and LDH. An increase of LDH1 together with a simultaneous decrease of LDH5 was found during separation of LDH isoenzymes.
