Diagnosis of poultry infection with myeloid leukemia virus (ALV-J) [Polish]

The ELISA and PCR methods were applied for the diagnosis of ALV-J infection of young chickens and adult hens in flocks from different regions of Poland. The ELISA examination was carried out on 980 of the sera of chicks at the age of 7-11 weeks and on 156 sera of Ros 308-race hens aged 8-15 months. Generally positive serological results were indicated in 21 (2.1%) of the chicks and 41 (26.3%) of the adult birds. Detailed serological examinations in one of the flocks revealed 38.4% positive results in the ELISA and 26.9% in the PCR. The length of DNA env gene bands was 545 pb and they were typical for the ALV-J virus.
