Surface modification of ceramic membranes for direct-contact membrane distillation

The objective of this research was to evaluate various forms of surface treatment for making ceramic membranes hydrophobic and suitable for application in direct-contact membrane distillation (DCMD). Alumina Anodisc membranes were made hydrophobic through forms of surface treatment that used perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane, trimeth-ylchlorosilane or trichloromethyisilane.
