Haematopoietic growth factors are a family of glycoproteins with important regulatory functions in the processes of proliferation, differentiation and functional activation of haematopoietic progenitors and mature blood cells. The concept of humoral control of haematopoiesis dates back to Carnot's work in 1906 [1].
