摘要

The transition from medical school to clinical practice is notoriously difficult. After graduating from medical school, junior doctors -and, frequently, their supervisors -signal a lack of non-technical skills such as those required to fulfil challenging communication tasks, as well as incompetence in basic medical tasks, such as initiating appropriate prescriptions. Starting work in a new environment, the medical workplace, marks the beginning of a dynamic process of coping with new responsibilities, tasks and expectancies. Although such a transition can represent a period of accelerated personal development, burnout levels of 25% among junior doctors indicate that they may be facing bigger challenges than they can cope with.
