Context and setting A recent survey carried out by the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine highlighted the finding that education on evidence-based medicine (EBM) in UK medical schools was patchy and mainly focused on literature searches and critical appraisal skills (personal communication). The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) considered that there was a need for a learning package that focused on the practical application of EBM in terms of putting the evidence into practice.
