Cardiac arrest On time standing still in the psychoanalytical process

The author asks what the subjective impression of time standing still in the psychoanalytical process could be connected with. Based on selected theoretical standpoints, above all based on Green and two clinical case vignettes, primarily two aspects of the phenomenon of time standing still in the process of analyses are presented in detail: standstill as an effect of trauma and standstill as an effect of narcissism. In the first case, the impression of standstill and the breakdown of time at a particular phase of regression has something to do with early attachment and relationship problems, a historical cumulative intergenerational trauma and the deferred activation of trauma and death experiences of the female patient. In the course of the analysis it became clear how the patient was attempting to "murder" time. In the second case of a narcissistic-compulsive male patient, temporality was "controlled" and resisted, because in some phases transience - temporality and death - was not allowed to penetrate the narcissistic protective shell.
