China's Angang New Steel is set to overhaul the one existing colour-coating line at its Liaoning province works. The modernization of the idled plant will take place later this year, with a view to bringing the line on stream at the end of 2002 or early 2003. The restart will coincide with commissioning of a brand new colour-coating line now being installed at the Anshan works. No information has been released as to when the colour-coating line was idled or whether the revamp would entail a capacity expansion. However, it is believed that the overhaul of the old line and installation of the new plant would given the Chinese steelmaker an overall colour-coating capacity of 300,000 tpy. As part of its large downstream expansion programme, Angang is also in the process of installing three 400,000 tpy hot-dip galvanizing lines, scheduled to come on stream by the middle of 2003. Two of the HDG lines are being constructed at its Anshan works, while the third - a joint venture with Germany's Thyssen Krupp-will be located in the port city of Dalian, around 250km south of the main plant.
