Colombia's September exports hit 2007 high

A big month in September saw Colombian exports rise to 6.1mt - the highest level for 12 months - despite the start of the rainy season, which is expected to last until January. This compares with shipments in September 2006 of 6.2mt and 5.4mt in August this year. Average monthly exports for 2007 have been 5.4mt. September's exports by Cerrejon and Drummond were also the highest this year at 2.85mt and 2.31mt respectively. This performance saw Cerrejon's year-to-date exports reach 22.92mt, compared to 20.61mt last year. On an annualised basis this comes to 30.5mt, well beyond MCR's adjusted forecast for the year of 29.8mt (orginally it was 31.5mt). However, Puerto Bolivar's shiploader will be out for maintenance for at least ten days at the end of October, which will result in 0.6mt lost from the system.
