EGYPT'S appetite for solid fuels such as thermal coal and petroleum coke will be transformed in the next 24 months due to its expanding cement business. Global cement producers such as Lafarge, Cemex and Cimpor are planning to develop major asset upgrades to supply Egypt and its surrounding markets. Emerging markets in the Middle East and North Africa are helping to offset demand destruction seen in Europe.
