Spark gains some ground against dark in UK

THE margin FOR coal-fired generation, after the cost of offsetting carbon emissions, continued to decline in the UK over the past fortnight. This was on the back of lower power prices which are responding to the seasonal shift of lighter and warmer days. Falling gas prices have also meant that gas-fired generation has improved its profitably, although it remains behind coal, but only just. However, in Germany, coal remains well ahead of gas, although its dominance was eroded slightly, as power and gas prices fell with the onset of summer.
