A surge in spot metallurgical (met) coal prices to levels not seensince late 2013 has prompted widespread disbelief among manymarket watchers.Spot deals for premium Australian hard coking coal pushedpassed $140/t FOB early in the week to 2 September, havingadded some $10/t on deals concluded late the previous week. Tounderline the significance of recent moves, the 34% gains rackedin August alone almost entirely reverse the losses suffered duringthe whole of 2015, on a dollar per tonne basis.
