The author has presented a good artificial neural network (ANN) model for prediction of axial load capacity of both concrete and steel piles and a drilled shaft pier. The novelty of the paper lies in comparison of the ANN and existing methods in terms of ranking using different statistical criteria. Simple prediction models have been presented that shall be very helpful for professionals. However, the discussers found some concerns about the proposed model that are elaborated as follows.
