With so many good books on sampling available in libraries throughout the world, it is hard to conceive that another one is needed on the shelves; however, this is a quite different and unique book about sampling that should be required reading for everyone working in the earth and environmental sciences. My own initial response to Sampling for Natural Resource Monitoring was sort of "ho-hum, here we go again;" and yet it piqued my interest because I had recently been doing some work in this area. I have now been carrying this book around for several months, and I am contin-ually astounded at the simplicity of presentation and its richness in terms of practical, fundamental knowledge. After many years of professional practice, I have learned there are still some things I didn't quite understand about sampling, and these authors elegantly tied up all of those loose ends for me in one fell swoop! I have discovered lots of "ah-hahs" in this book.
