Cargo and the city - How to make urban freight more viable

"Why do we know so little about urban freight?" With this question, Pavlos Kanaroglou, a professor at the McMaster Institute for Transportation and Logistics, set the tone for a session on urban freight at the Transportation Association of Canada's annual conference in Toronto last month. Masses of cargo travel through Canadian cities daily, but there's very little by way of strategy for how to improve it. The panel of experts assembled for the session agreed: until this is changed, the gridlock is going to continue.
