Multi-tasking--is one tool really enough?

IN recent memory, there have been few developments in machine design that have had the same impact on productivity in industry as multi-tasking machines have had on manufacturing operations. While undoubtedly for metalworkers these machines may be the next best thing since sliced bread, the added spindles, tool turrets and rotational axes that come with multi-tasking have resulted in tighter clearances and a limited number of tool stations.
