FOR YEARS the old adage, bigger is better, has been the mantra of laser manufacturers around the world with many believing that size equates to power, but developments in laser equipment design is proving otherwise. While still considered a relatively new technology, thin disk lasers (TDL) are starting to make their mark in industry and are continuing to expand into new applications, positioning themselves alongside other industrial laser solutions such as CO2, diode-pumped solid-state and fiber lasers.
