Tool management: Engine manufacturer benefits by integrating new software into its production system

The installation of a new tool management system at Cosworth Racing is not only helping to rationalise the company's tooling, but also generating savings in production engineering lead times. Moreover, Cosworth is the first automotive manufacturer in Europe to integrate the TDM Tool Data Management system from Walter GB Ltd, Redditch (Tel: 01527 60281), with Unigraphics CAD/CAM and Vericut NC program verification. In addition to closely integrating its manufacturing systems, Cosworth is planning to use the system's Internet access capability to allow other company departments - in particular, the design department - to have real-time access to comprehensive tool data, to help streamline the design-for-manufacture process.
