Bridging the gap between single- and multi-spindle lathes

Coalville-based Tornos Technologies Ltd (www.tornos.com) says that its new MultiSwiss machine range bridges the gap between single-and multi-spindle lathes. With the MultiSwiss 6X14, the core of the machine is the barrel with individual headstocks. Here, the hydro-static bearings of the central barrel and individual spindles offer advantages with regard to damping behaviour: the barrel rotates and is positioned using a torque motor that is said to facilitate short indexing times.
