Tooling development: New carbide milling and turning tools reduce lead times and boost machine utilisation

The simple philosophy of being 'best in class' is applied to every activity at Innovative Tooling Solutions (ITS). It starts with answering the phone and goes right through to service and support for the company's world-leading ranges of deep-hole contouring heads and controlled boring bars (pictured top right), produced for a global customer base at its Glenrothes site in Fife. This programme of continual improvement is particularly evident on the shopfloor, where the introduction of carbide turning and milling tooling from Bromsgrove-based Walter GB Ltd (Tel: 01527 839450), as well as Walter Prototyp drilling solutions, has reduced lead times by up to 50%. Furthermore, increased tool life has also boosted machine utilisation.
