The Southern California Section meeting was held Saturday, November 10, at Glass Tech Supplies, Inc. in Fullerton, CA. The meeting was hosted by Rosie Lutz, Richard Bock, and Stephen Lepore and was cosponsored by LabGlass of Vineland, NJ with West Coast South Sales Representative Dale Miller. Holding the fall meeting at Glass Tech Supplies has become somewhat of a tradition or good food and drink, along with interesting and informative glassblowing demonstrations.The first demonstration was a bit of a shock, literally. Richard Bock of Glass Tech Supplies demonstrated the use of their Vacuum Pumping Station. Small glass attachments of various shapes were evacuated and some filled with neon gas. These attachments were then secured to a Tesla Coil, a high frequency emitting device, and then applied to various parts of the human body the resulting shock, it is said, not only provides a pleasant shock, it is said, not only provides a pleasant shocking sensation but is also known to have medicinal benefits, helping to alleviate ailments from warts to balding. This form of treatment dates back to the early 1900's and some of the attachments were replicas manufactured from the originals which were once available from Sears and Roebuck Company. Thurston Leveigh from Glass Instrument in Pasadena, CA was kind enough to share his original "shock kit" complete with original literature.
