Depending on the intended application in each case, abrasive cut-off systems have been gaining ground in steelworks, rolling mills, forging shops as well as in the steelworking industry as an economical alternative to other cutting methods. This cutting process is made possible by the self-sharpening effect of the cut-off-wheel, which becomes manifest by the reduction of the diameter of the abrasive cut-off wheel. It is all the more important, therefore, that the various influencing factors should be optimally matched to one another. The performance factor (Life Time) of an abrasive cut-off wheel is determined to a large extent by a number of parameters which must be given special consideration in solving any cutting problem.
