AS NATIONS ACROSS THE globe seek to reduce their carbon emissions, one of the major steps they are taking is to remove sulfur from fuels. According to The Sulphur Institute, based in Washington D.C., the major derivative of sulfur is sulfuric acid, the highest production volume chemical, which is used as an industrial raw material. The largest single use of sulfuric acid is for the manufacture of phosphoric acid, which is used to manufacture phosphate fertilizers and non-fertilizer phosphates. Sulfur and its derivatives are also used in metallurgical ore leaching and for other applications.
