Pineapple and banana exports controlled from abroad

Bananas and pineapples are grown within a radius of 160 km (100 miles) of Abidjan. This is not because production conditions are any better here - it's because it is only a relatively short haul to the port of shipment. All the factors essential to good logistics are there: a well-equipped seaport, good packaging material, a relatively short voyage to the import markets, a location in an ACP country that attracts capital investments from multinationals.
