The international run on the organic sector

37,000 people visited the BioFach 2006 held in Nuremberg from 16 to 19 December 2006, an increase from 33,000 to 37,000 (12%) compared with the last time around. The international attendance stayed the same but the number of German exhibitors rose to713. The buying behaviour is described as good. The organic sector is now experiencing the development which experts have long predicted: organic food is gaining in popularity and production can't keep up with the demand. This former niche market is fastbecoming a serious sector with a professional attitude, The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAAA), one of the organizers of the fair, announced in the course of the event that 31 million ha are now under organic cultivationworldwide. In 2005 alone, 5 million ha were added to this - and the trend shows no signs of letting up.
