The purpose of a national approach to the management of Johne's disease in Australia is to facilitate complementary approaches across the affected livestock industries and jurisdictions. The Australian bovine and ovine Johne's disease (BJD and OJD) programs have been subject to periodic review to ensure that the programs continue to align with national animal health policy directions. Over the last decade, Johne's disease control has evolved from a strongly regulated program to an industry-driven partnership with state governments that addresses the whole issue of farm biosecurity, while still retaining a technically strong basis for management activities.
