Many developed countries throughout the world embarked in recent years on projects aimed at introducing new technologies for saving, treating and producing water, realizing that the scarcity of water is a serious global problem. The projects include desalination, recycling and the use of marginal water for agriculture and industry. The global water trade is estimated at US$400 bn a year. Israel, which introduced to the world the drip irrigation, now introduces new technologies developed by high-techcompanies. The country's export of water technologies in 2006 was worth US$1 bn, and it is estimated that within ten years, the export will reach US 10 dollar bn per year.
