Ailimpo - shaking up the citrus sector

Ailimpo was founded in Murcia on 5 August 1998 as a multi-sector association. The feeling was rife that lemons and grapefruit were out of place in the citrusfruit group (oranges, mandarins) and needed an association of their own because of substantial differences in production, trading channels and consumption patterns. Valencia was not overjoyed at the idea of a breakaway association, but Murcia has always gone its own way in matters of lemon production and marketing. Perhaps it has something to do a mentality difference.
