Second of three expeditions: Returning to China - Studies in Guangdong, Hunan, Yunnan and Hainan

I made my second expedition to China in March 2006. This trip, extending through May, was primarily a combination of field studies in the Guangdong and Yunnan Provinces. I had already been invited by Dr. Wang Hong to conduct field expeditions in Yunnan. In addition, Prof. Houbin Chen from the South China Agricultural University invited me to visit in Guangzhou, the third largest city in China. I was also introduced to Prof. Xue-Jun Ge, a molecular biologist from the South China Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The principal aims of this expedition were to conduct research on wild bananas, especially in remote areas in Guangdong, Hunan, Yunnan and Hainan, and to give some lectures on wild bananas to the local institutions.
