Limit reference points, traffic lights, and holistic approaches to fisheries management with minimal stock assessment input

It is natural that scientists should follow the way concepts come to be used when they have had a hand in their development, and this applies in my case to the related ideas of limit reference points (LRPs) and the traffic light management system. One can never control where an idea leads to, but if there may be the danger of a methodology changing while retaining the original nomenclature, it seems worthwhile to point this out, and that is the purpose of the current note. It is suggested that adding bells and whistles to a simple methodology may postpone its practical implementation by stakeholders and fishery managers, which is urgently needed at the moment.
