It's bound to be a larger than last year's crop, which suffered extensive winter kill, but it is expected to fall below anticipatedtonnage and will likely lack the sundrenched quality that can make a short crop a vintage year. Still, growers and wineries remained optimistic in early September that a period of hot, dry fall weather leading up to harvest could turn things around and make it a commercially successful if not vintage year.
