Despite the efforts of industry members and associations, two pieces of legislation that would benefit the fresh-cut produce industry failed to pass Congress before the midterm election break at the end of September.The first was the Child Nutrition Reauthorization, which would have provided the first real increase in school lunch funding since the program was introduced almost 60 years ago. "We were very disappointed that it didn't come to a vote before the midtermelection break," said Lorelei DiSogra, vice president of health and nutrition for United Fresh Produce Association.
