Internship... Laying down the challenge

Of qualified applicants to internship programs in 2003, only 53% landed an internship placement. Surprised? This is actually an increase from previous years, but not far from the average of 45% placement that we have seen as a profession over the past ten years. Some people think this is a good thing - "it sets the bar high so that only the brightest are entering the profession". The average applicant to internship has a minimum 70% or "B" average from university, and a packed portfolio highlighting the work and volunteer experience that they have undertaken in an effort to get into the profession. These bright young individuals are indeed very qualified, and have energy and enthusiasm to contribute to our professional pool.
