Maritimes Rebuts Critics of its Rate Case Filing and Out-of-Cycle Fuel Retention Filing

Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline, LLC (RP09-809) recently answered protests filed on or about July 13 regarding its general Natural Gas Act (NGA) section 4 rate case filing that would reduce recourse rates by roughly 23% but elicited considerable comment and expressions of reservations from shippers using Maritimes' firm and interruptible mainline and lateral line transportation services. Maritimes' out-of-cycle Fuel Retainage Quantity (FRQ) calculation, submitted concurrently with the rate case, reflects an expected increase in throughput associated with the start-up of the Canaport LNG terminal in New Brunswick, Canada.
